Ice is 1”-4”. Hattie has a wide variance in thickness and quality of ice today but was capped. A couple of fisherman where brave enough to venture out by the dam and boat ramp which had around 4” of ice. Reports from the rest of the lake varies from 1”-3” all the way up to upper lake along the shore but not enough for us to venture out a verify today. Looks like a good start for now but needs some more cold.
Meeboer has 1″-5″ of ice with the best being 3″-5″ west of the boat ramp area. Open water around the aerator and a little on the Northwest by the parking lot. Fishing was a little slow this morning but will get a better idea as the opportunity is improving with conditions.

1″-5.5″ of ice. The lake had about 5″ of ice off the boat ramp to at least 20 yards out. Past that ice looked newer and didn’t venture out. Open water in the middle from the aerator to the east for about 70 yards and a small open area on the south shore halfway from the boat ramp to the other parking area. No fisherman out around noon.
Only minimal ice on the edges of the shoreline. Most of the lake is still open water fishable if you can find a day. Found a little bit of ice by the narrows but the 3′ swells where doing there best to not help it.
The west half the lake from the first bay all the way past boat dock was completely open and chewing on the ice shelf with the wind. East half was mostly covered with a couple of pot holes open in the middle. Looks to be a bit before any luck on this one.
Gelatt was about 95% covered with a small section open on the west end. Ice is very choppy on both the east and west ends of the lake. The open section wasn’t promising with the current winds but hope it holds and starts building. No one out on it yet and no evidence of anyone gutsy enough to test yet.
Lake is capped but lots of variations in how it looks. No one was out on it but a couple of wholes had been drilled about 25′ out.

Some info from the game and fish biologist about the fish kill this past weekend. Recent Gelatt Lake fish kill event: On Friday July 9th anglers at Gelatt Lake were catching fish. But by the morning of July 10th, hundreds of trout were lost due to low oxygen conditions. In addition, thousands of dead Fathead Minnows were observed. Oxygen most likely fell to lethal levels during the night due to plant respiration. While a good proportion of fish died from a lack of oxygen, it was not a total fish kill. There have been reports of fish still being caught since the event. Aerators were in operation and might have provided a zone of better oxygenated water for some fish to survive.
