Some info from the game and fish biologist about the fish kill this past weekend. Recent Gelatt Lake fish kill event: On Friday July 9th anglers at Gelatt Lake were catching fish. But by the morning of July 10th, hundreds of trout were lost due to low oxygen conditions. In addition, thousands of dead Fathead Minnows were observed. Oxygen most likely fell to lethal levels during the night due to plant respiration. While a good proportion of fish died from a lack of oxygen, it was not a total fish kill. There have been reports of fish still being caught since the event. Aerators were in operation and might have provided a zone of better oxygenated water for some fish to survive.

Hattie has wide variations in the ice thicknesses an quality. 1″-4″ of ice from the reports from fisherman(not enough for me to venture out on this one). Had enough ice by the dam that some brave souls where out on it. Looks like we may finally have a good solid start to build on.
Hattie was about 40% open maybe a bit more. There are 3 separate open areas; from the the West end all the way to just past the point, some in the narrows and by the old boat ramp. You can find fishable open water if you are looking for it. Dam and main boat ramp are still locked in ice.
Meeboer was 100% open and free of ice. Looking forward to some great ice off fishing.
Twin Buttes opened up significantly yesterday in the wind. About 65% of the lake is now open including the boat ramp. There is still ice in the first bay and on the East end of the lake by the first outhouse. It was open water from the West end all the way past the boat ramp and all along the North shore. Should start to fish well with chironomid flies, and eggs but we’ll have to see how this goes this year.
Twin was still completely capped but edges are shot every where we looked.
Gelatt was 70%+ open water with plenty of fishable area from shore. Boat ramp was clear of ice. East end was still capped with ice and a small amount of ice was still left on the West end. Fishing was fair to good before ice started to come off.
Meeboer was about 40% open with fishable water on the East and South sides. Boat ramp was clear of ice. The west end bay and 1/2 of the “horseshoe” was still capped. Fishing had been a little bit slower but should pick up as ice comes off
Lake is capped but ice conditions very and are thin around the shore. 1.5″-3″ of ice. Fishing has been hard to report with ice conditions changing daily.
Lake is 3/4 iced over with some fishable open water on the north shore. fishing has been good if you can get a day with the open water being accessible.
Fishing has been slow as the ice has been not cooperating. Lake is almost completely capped with a small open area on the west side in the middle. Ice is very clear but appears extremely thin.
Fishing has been fair. Plenty of open water, only ice today was on the east end of the lake.
Lake is wide open and fishing has been fair. Better if you can catch a day with less white caps, which has been hard the last couple weeks.
Fishing is fair. Flies: Scuds (olive, tan, grey), Midges (red, olive, black), Damsels (blue and green), Leeches (balanced and hot-heads), Streamers (olive, brown, orange, purple) Bait and Lures: Rapalas (fire tiger, rainbow, brown in countdown, floating, and jointed), Krocodiles, Daredevils (red/white, black/white), redworms, large nightcrawlers, Pink and green glitter powerbait

Fishing has been fair. Lots of people have been heading out the last couple of weeks. Flies: scuds, damsel nymphs, hot heads Bait: power bait (red, corn), worms. Luers: Mepps and Panther Martins (reds, yellows)
Fishing has been slow to fair. Catching a good amount of the small stockers that where put in this spring but big fish have been slow from shore, better from a boat. Lake is extremely full so bank fishing can be hard. Bait: worms of bottom, power bait (rainbow, green) Flies: big streamers, Bite-me-buggers, hot heads, eggs Luers: Dardevil (red/white, gold), rapals (brown trout, pearch)
Fishing is slow. Either a long day or big fish. Flies: streamers, leeches, chironomids, amphipods Lures: Rapalas (fire tiger, rainbow trout, or brown trout); rooster tails (fire tiger and rainbow trout); mepps (bright and flashy colors) Bait: night crawlers
Fishing is fair to good! Diamond is open and accessible. Fishing has been Fair. Flies: Hot Heads and egg patterns have been the go to so far. Bait: Worms have been working best. Lures: Mepps with red and white.

Lake is 98% open and boat ramp was clear of ice this morning (but not free of 3′ white caps). Only ice I saw was on dam at the north end and shoreline.
Lake is 90% iced hot shoreline is opening up and ice looks sketch on most of the lake. A couple of open shore areas that are fishable on the southwest shore past the heat ramp. A couple diehard wind fighters out this morning in one past the walking gate.
Lake is 85% open. Only ice is on the west bank out toward the aireator 150 yards. Only concern would be the flow becoming detached and shifting in the lake. Should be a good spot to hit open water this weekend.
Lake is about 60% maybe more open. From boat ramp to south is all open to almost the other shore. Shore line is open all the way around to the road for at least 15 feet and then opens up into the whole end on west for about 30 yards.
Lake is about 50% open. East end is iced over for around 250 yards then opens up completely. Ice starts on the west end by the point on the north side then opens up again at the west end.
Lake was open from the boat ramp area to the East. Ice on west end was 3″-7″. Be careful as warm weather can effect the ice quickly. Fishing has been good. photos from 3/6
Lake was open from the boat ramp to the aerator around to the South. the rest of the lake was capped with ice. Be careful as warm weather can effect the ice quickly. Last thickness was 6″-8″ Fishing has been Good the last two weeks. Pinks and greens working the best as of late. Photos from 3/6

Lake is ~80+% open water. Ice is from about 100 yards west of the boat ramp to the dam so no boats of size yet. Fishing should pick up as the ice comes off.

Fishing has been Slow. Seeing lots of fish but not much luck getting them to hook up. Ice is 8″-12″
Fishing was good. Ice was 6″-10″ with open water around the aerator. Pink & Green colors, mellows, night crawlers
Fishing is fair to good. picking up this last week or so. Ice is 6″-8″ with some open around the aerator. Yellows & Pink colors, red power bait
Fishing is fair. Ice is 8″-14″ on most of the lake with some open spots due to wind east of the “houses” in the bay and on the west end. Green & red jigs with meal worms, red power bait, spawn sacks.
Road was drifted over a couple hundred yards from the lake, but was close enough to walk to lake (Last hilltop before the lake is where they could drive to). Fishing was fair to good. Ice was 12″+
Thanks to Shawn for the report Here is a fishing report from 1/19/20 Ice was 13-14 inches thick and it was a slow day. We landed 4 nice fish but we typically land 6-12 fish a day at Alsop. We used everything from Powerbait to tubes to Kastmasters and Rapalas. All the fish came on Powerbait.
Ice was around 5″ to 8″ Fishing has been slow to Fair but nice size to what was caught Pink and orange jig colors
Report is road was drifted over and didn’t look passable, this is a day to day issue up there. Ice was 6″-9″ at last report and fishing was fair to good.

Diamond has been fishing Fair (only two reports from this weekend) Ice 4″-6″ road was passable and ice was good. As always conditions can change quick so use best judgment and be safe.
Twin Buttes has been fishing Good Ice 2.5″-6″, thickness was extremely varied from reports but those that found ice they were comfortable with did well. Jigging raps, and darters seemed to be the trick. As always conditions can change quick so use best judgment and be safe.

East end had 2.5″ where we checked about 15 ft from shore. Lake is capped. Most looked thinner than that. No sign that people had been out yet. As always conditions can change quick so use best judgment and be safe.
Ice is 3″-5″ maybe a bit more on west end and less by boat ramp. Fishermen out on a hit about 35 yards from shore where it seemed to start thinning out to 4″. Some soft slush around shore. As always conditions can change quick so use best judgment and be safe.
3″ to 4″ of ice with guys on the lake about 30 yards out from shore. Could see where people had been out today in several parts of the lake. Lake is capped. As always conditions can change quick so use best judgment and be safe.
